John worked for the Washington Dept. of Transportation for 34 years starting in 1979, when he moved to Aberdeen. John was inspired to write the book because of his own love for playing in skunk cabbage patches as a young boy. While growing up in Wrangell, Alaska, John enjoyed things all kids love to do: play in the mud, sled in the winter, play on the beach, in the forest and in the skunk cabbage patches.
